THE CORONAVIRUS PRAYER

Gabriel Zimmer

Dear Lord,

In this our hour of doorknobs and droplets,
when masks have canceled our personalities;
in this our hour of prickling perimeters, sinister surfaces,
defeated bodies, and victorious abstractions,
when some of us are stepping into rooms humid with contagion,
and some of us are standing in the pasta aisle;
in this our hour of vacant parks and boarded-up hoops,
when we miss the sky-high roar of the city
and hear instead the tarp that flaps on the unfinished roof,
the squirrel giving his hingelike cry, and the siren constantly passing,
to You we send up our prayer, as follows:

Let not heebie-jeebies become our religion,
our new ideology, with its own jargon.
Fortify us, Lord. Show us how.
What would your saints be doing now?
Saint Francis, he was a fan of the human.
He’d be rolling naked on Boston Common.
He’d be sharing a bottle. No mask, no gloves,
shielded only by burning love.
But I don’t think we’re in the mood
for feats of antic beatitude.
In New York City, and in Madrid,
the saints maintain the rumbling grid.
Bless the mailman, and equally bless
the bus driver, vector of steadfastness.
Protect the bravest, the best we’ve got.
Protect the rest of us, why not.
And if the virus that took John Prine
comes, as it may, for me and mine,
although we’ve mostly stayed indoors,
well—then, as ever, we’re all Yours.

Until further notice,

AMEN

NEW BALANCE NEWEST SUSTAINABLE KICKS
WANT…that is all.
TRUE CRIME, YAY!
Found an article on Vulture called “The 25 Best True-Crime Documentaries on Netflix” by Brian Tallerico. Here are the ones I’ve seen:
1. Conversations With a Killer: The Ted Bundy Tapes – Pretty good…wanted more info on victims
2. The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann – REALLY good! Lot’s of stuff I had no idea and shows video and pictures of the area which makes a difference, for sure!
3. Killer Inside: The Mind of Aaron Hernandez – AMAZING! Lots of unknown info and by the end I had some compassion for Aaron which I NEVER thought I would have.
4. Making a Murderer – Very interesting and VERY infuriating.
5. The Staircase – Good. Hard to decided who did it.

And now I have a list of 20 more shows to watch!
WHAT I’M WATCHING
Right now one of my favorite shows is “Finding Your Roots with Henry Louis Gates, Jr.“. I’m obsessed with genealogy and history so this is the shizznitz! I recommend this TV Series!

Episode Four

CHEER

Well, I did it. I broke down and watched ‘CHEER’ on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it, it’s about a cheer team at Navarro College in Corsicana, TX. As the saying goes…I laughed, I cried, and it became a part of me. I recommend it! Go Jerry!

BAD POP
My son is going to school to become either a dietitian or occupational therapist. He’s been bugging me about drinking pop this whole last year. To date, I have not had a soda pop in 14 days. That is all.
SELF-PUBLISHING AUTHORS
I read tons of self-publishing authors – romance and science fiction are my favorite. The Mashable article by Sam Haysom titled “These Self-Published Authors are Actually Making a Living. Here’s How” is a hopeful and interesting read. As many people, I’ve thought about writing my own romance novel…and this article gives the public information and access to how successful self-publishers are doing it. The article also gave me some new authors to read!
Art Apprish Corner
One of my most favorite artists on Artfinder.com is Pavel Kuragin. I have several pieces of his work in my home and I look at his art almost every day. Pavel is from Russia and is an amazing talent.
